About

2CM-Shooting-Sept-2017.jpg

I create my work in nature where I feel most at home. Being there, I am connected to something larger than myself. I do not see myself as separate from nature, I am part of it. I am a conceptual photographer and video artist. Each project begins with a concept, followed by scouting locations in natural environments and then experimenting on site.  I choose not to use digital or AI enhancement in my work. This is where the magic happens—when I intuitively surrender to my inner muse. Working in the natural landscapes with wind, natural light and eco-friendly materials, I collaborate with nature in creating worlds of wonder and awe.

“As if a burst of magic were thrust into the air or Cheryl behaved like a wizard and enchanted the environment with sacred magic and runes to call upon spirits of another realm or ancient times. These imaginative photographs and video art films express a rumination of child-like wonder and appreciation for nature beyond literal and documentary depictions. In essence, Cheryl Maeder reinterprets natural environments as vehicles of not only amazement and wonderment, but also as conduits of expression and poetic philosophy.” Michael Hanna, Editor & Curator, Point Pleasant Publishing
